Angie King – President
My name is Angie King, founder of Women of the Oath Outdoors.
As a mom, a wife, a veteran, and a law enforcement officer, service has always been part of who I am. I spent 10 years in the military, including two deployments to Iraq, before continuing my path of service in law enforcement. But like many who serve, I learned that when the uniform comes off, the weight doesn’t always go with it.
After leaving the military, I spent years searching for that same sense of purpose. That calling led me into law enforcement, first in Missouri and then in Kansas, where I served as a deputy assigned to a school for five years before stepping into state-level law enforcement.
But through every chapter, I kept coming back to one thing…
the outdoors.
It became my reset.
A place to breathe.
A place to think.
A place to find myself again.
And I knew I wasn’t the only one who needed that.
I met Amber and Amy through a women’s veteran hunting group, and during one of our yearly reunions, I finally put words to what had been on my heart for a long time. I shared the vision, not knowing what would come of it, but both of them immediately felt it too.
It wasn’t forced. It wasn’t planned.
It was understood.
In that moment, it became clear this wasn’t just my calling… it was ours.
Women of the Oath Outdoors was built for women who have taken an oath to serve, whether in the military, law enforcement, or as first responders. It’s a space for those who carry that responsibility every day, often without a place to set it down.
We are currently in the process of obtaining our 501(c)(3) status as we continue building this mission with intention and purpose.
This organization exists to create that space, to step outside, reconnect, and find strength in both the outdoors and each other.
This isn’t just an organization.
It’s a community.
Amy Winegardner and Amber Ming are board members and co-founders of Women of the Oath Outdoors and will be introducing themselves in the days to follow.

Amber Ming – Co-Founder Treasurer
Amber Ming is a Co-Founder and proud 10-year veteran of the United States Navy, dedicated to serving and uplifting fellow women veterans and law enforcement officers through the power of the outdoors. After completing her military service, Amber relocated to Texas, where she finished her education, raised her daughter, and built a successful career in the power generation industry.
In 2019, Amber participated in an antelope hunt in New Mexico with a group of women veterans and first responders—an experience that sparked lifelong friendships and revealed the powerful impact that outdoor experiences and community can have on healing and connection. What began as a single trip grew into an annual tradition of hunting and retreating together, creating a strong and supportive sisterhood.
When Angie approached Amber with the vision of forming a nonprofit dedicated to bringing outdoor opportunities to women veterans and law enforcement officers, Amber immediately connected with the mission, as it aligned with a vision she already held in her heart. Together, they launched the organization to create meaningful opportunities for connection, restoration, and empowerment through outdoor adventures.
As Co-Founder, Amber is passionate about building a supportive community where women who have served can reconnect with nature, find strength in sisterhood, and experience the healing and peace that the outdoors provides. She is committed to growing the organization and expanding its reach so more women can benefit from these life-changing experiences.

Amy Winegardner – Co-Founder – Secretary
Amy Winegardner is a Co-Founder Of Women of The Oath and a four year veteran of the United States Air Force (91-95). Amy, along with Angie and Amber, is passionate about living a life of service and supporting female veterans and law enforcement whether while active duty or post service through outdoor adventures.
After Amy’s military service, she became a Laramie County Sheriff’s Deputy in Cheyenne Wyoming. Amy used the GI Bill to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education – Mathematics while serving her community and raising two boys. Amy would spend the next 24 years in Education, earning a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and teaching math to grades 7-12. Retiring to Trinidad Colorado, Amy continues to serve her community by working as a Seasonal Park Ranger, 4H Shooting Leader for Shotgun and serving on the Las Animas County Search and Rescue Team.
In 2019, Amy went on a hog hunt in Texas with another female veteran while other veterans went antelope hunting in New Mexico. It was decided that these unique female defenders wanted to continue their friendship through annual reunions held around the country. It was at a reunion in Texas, that Amy first met Amber and Angie. You know when you meet “your people.” The fellowship, support and celebrating each other continues year round and grows deeper each year, as does the healing, personal growth and knowledge that you have a team of beautiful badasses in your corner when life throws a “Here is what is next for you.”
Angie approached Amy with her vision for Women of The Oath and it was a no brainer for Amy to join as WOTO combines her two biggest passions: serving others and teaching others to hunt and or fish. Like Angie and Amber, the outdoors for Amy has provided peace and healing over the years as well as deepening friendships.
Together, these three female veterans, are working together to give back by growing the WOTO organization to help other female veterans/law enforcement have a support system, find peace/healing and learn more about themselves.
